Dover Fueling Solutions® Collaborates with The University of Texas in Student Hackathon

AUSTIN, TEXAS – September 9, 2022 –Dover Fueling Solutions® (DFS), a part of Dover Corporation and a leading global provider of advanced customer-focused technologies, services and solutions in the fuel and convenience retail industries, is collaborating with McCombs School of Business at The University of Texas at Austin (“Texas McCombs”) hosting a hackathon at its corporate headquarters in Austin, Texas, September 9-11, 2022.

This hackathon will involve teams of both undergraduate and postgraduate Texas McCombs students competing against one another to solve challenging computer programming problems. The technologies at the students’ disposal for this exercise include DFS’s next-generation user experience platform, IoT, cloud services, machine learning, and mobile technologies, to name a few. Students will then be judged in the categories of consumer experience, technical difficulty, innovation, and execution. This will be DFS’s third hackathon, which now includes undergraduates, from Texas McCombs and sponsorships from industry leaders like Intel, Lenovo, Microsoft and Mansfield Oil. Collaborative partnerships with innovative companies like these will accelerate technological advances for the industry.

DFS Vice President of Solutions Engineering Hob Hairston stated, “Dover Fueling Solutions® is excited to continue our partnership with the McCombs School and The University of Texas at Austin. DFS is proud to be back for a third year, partnering on such an impactful program for our students and the future of our workforce. Our on-campus connections allow us to reach students who may not otherwise consider such a challenge. The caliber of the tech solutions that the teams present continues to impress. Students lean on their academic careers and life experiences to come up with some amazing ideas. I can’t wait to see what ideas are presented this year.”

“The DFS Hackathon is a great opportunity for our students to apply the skills they are learning in the classroom towards a more realistic situation. Not only will they get to push their technical skills by learning and implementing with new platforms, they will also get to work with DFS professionals to innovate and work effectively as a team. Presenting their work to DFS leadership and the other students will challenge their communication skills as well. We appreciate the opportunity that Dover Fueling Solutions®, a known innovator in the fuel and convenience retail industry, is providing to our students and it demonstrates DFS’ commitment to supporting higher education." – Caryn Conley, PhD, Program Director of the Texas McCombs Master of Science in Information Technology and Management Program.

In the future, DFS will support similar events with multiple universities across various regions around the globe. In partnering with world-class universities, such as The University of Texas at Austin, DFS hopes to develop synergies with academia to drive new innovations and inspire the next generation of industry leaders. DFS is a member of the Advisory Council for the Master of Science in Information Technology and Management (MSITM) program, which is a STEM program at Texas McCombs.
