Dover Fueling Solutions Launches Detailed Report Exploring How Consumer Expectations are Redefining the Forecourt Experience

AUSTIN, TEXAS – 3 November 2025 – Dover Fueling Solutions® (DFS), part of Dover Corporation and a global leader in fuelling and convenience retail technologies, has launched a new report titled “Beyond the Pump: Enhancing the Consumer Experience in Fuel Retail.”

Based on a survey of 1,200 consumers across the UK, France, Germany, and the Netherlands, the report explores the factors that most influence fuel station choice, from price and cleanliness to access to multi-energy options and additional services.

It highlights how fuel sites are evolving from simple refuelling stops into multi-purpose destinations, and how well-managed facilities are influencing brand loyalty and driving a new standard for customer experience.

Key findings include:

  • United Kingdom: 72% of UK consumers prioritise price ahead of location and cleanliness, with 75% now preferring contactless payment - highlighting the growing demand for fast, seamless transactions.
  • France: Two-thirds of consumers (66%) now choose to pay directly at the pump, making France the leader in integrated fuel payments.
  • Germany: While only 6% of consumers currently use pay-at-pump, trust levels remain among the highest, showing confidence in the fuelling process despite slower digital adoption.
  • Netherlands: Loyalty is the weakest across all markets, with just 8% of Dutch consumers describing themselves as “extremely loyal” to a fuel brand, underlining how convenience now outweighs brand affinity.

The report combines these insights with commentary from industry experts, who explore how data, automation, and consumer understanding are shaping the next era of fuel retail.

“Smart fuel sites, or mobility hubs, represent a significant evolution for fuel retailers, moving beyond traditional fuel sales to become central hubs for various transportation and convenience needs,” said Peter Van Nauw, Senior Director and General Manager, DFS Systems and Payment, EMEA. “This shift requires embracing technology, focusing on the customer experience, and adapting to the changing mobility landscape.”

The report also addresses the growing challenge of balancing operational reliability with customer satisfaction and outlines how DFS solutions such as Tokheim® and Wayne® dispensers, Prizma, and Tokheim Crypto VGA® OPT/DIT payment technology help retailers deliver trusted transactions, reduce downtime, and create seamless digital journeys. It also explores the rise of alternative fuels, including LNG, CNG, HVO, hydrogen, and EV charging, which are becoming essential components of the modern fuel site.
